Powerful more rock centered album October 4, 2003 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
When i purchased the new VH cd i was expecting something very like the previous album "everything you want" but what i got was quite to the contrary. It seems that with every album they change their sound to keep it fresh and it worked. This album is much more rock harmony oriented and is one of the best ive heard this year and i hope they keep this sound. The lyrics are emotianally charged and the melody lines are amazing and catchy. THIS CD IS A WINNER!!!
Not bad just formulatic; The old Vertical Horizon is dead. October 3, 2003 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
I loved, I repeat, Loved Running on Ice! This was VH at it's best. They had their unique sound and style and highlighted Keith Kane's vocals more. Also, Running on Ice did not have the formula sound and it set apart VH as it's own band. Here comes GO, a very formulatic CD. Not awful, not bad but it is not much different than the standard formula based music. There is no more "Falling Down" or "Fragments" type songs. The CD was obviously produced to meet the record labels definition of formula. I am certain this was the reason for the delay. Don't get me wrong, I still like GO, it just feels sad that the real Vertical Horizon (Running on Ice, Live Stages) is gone and may never return. Maybe hitting it big isn't such a good thing for the listener.
Good Follow-up to Everything you Want album October 2, 2003 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is a very good follow-up album to the previous "Everything you want" album.....Easily likeable....Would say that the songs in the album as a whole are like a combi of Running on Ice and Everything you want....(earlier acoustic works and the electric EYW album)....its the best of 2 worlds....you can now hear layers of synths in the background...When you cry.... I'm still here.....an obvious radio hit Forever...very likeable...the next big hit sunshine....hard intro and reminds you of a 3 doors down song Highly recommended for VH fans.....melody and instrumentations are really good...
Harder version of Vertical Horizon; Awesome CD. October 1, 2003 Vertical Horizon took a rougher harder edge on GO versus their previous material and comes out a winner. Matthew is able to let loose on guitar riffs and explodes on many titles. They also are able to deliver on the follow up of their previous Everything You Want CD.Highlights: I'm Still Here - VH at its best. Awesome guitar riffs, awesome melody. Should be a hit. Forever - Should be a crowd favorite live. Goodbye - HIT HIT HIT...Should be a megahit.... Inside - Very different sounding VH song but WOW! Major hit potential. All in all a very different sound than Running on Ice era but VH has made its way to the bigtime.
So So September 30, 2003 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
This album is by no means bad; songs are well crafted, melodic, and have plenty of hook. However, it is clear that apart from some strings and the occasional hypnotic loop, VH has not progressed from EYW. This albums just isn't all that interesting. By all means, buy it, burn it, whatever and enjoy the hooks now, but realize you probably won't be popping this disc in much once you've worn it through. I second the suggestions to buy Live Stages, that is truly VH's peak.
