Product Description Their fourth full-length and second on Touch And Go contains melodies that are more dynamic and aggressive. This record is tighter, the drumming more immediate and crisp. "Autumn Of The Seraphs" is for both rabbits and people, for good days and for bad. A bonus disc will be packaged with the first pressing of the CD, featuring three new studio songs not found on the LP.
Amazon.com Fueled by Rob Crow's trenchant if depressing lyrics and his sweet, high pitched vocals, Pinback employs the old sad-words-plus-pretty-pop-music dichotomy to the best effect yet on Autumn Seraphs. In the three years since Pinback last released an album, nerdy, self-deprecating, sensitive indie-rock has continued to climb in popularity, from mid-sized concert halls to the stadiums. The San Diego-based duo's fourth release is really their poppiest and most accessible to date, as even the most cursory listen to the obvious single, the Heatmiser-ish "Nothing to Nowhere" will attest. Perhaps they can get their songs onto Gossip Girl or The Hills and be playing Madison Square Garden next week? You get the sense that Zach Smith and Rob Crow would be making their levitating pop music whether it was for a drunken house party crowd or in some giant dome. --Mike McGonigal

Another quality production from San Diego November 27, 2008 While not as catchy as Summer in Abaddon, it still has all the good qualities of a Pinback album. A few upbeat songs mingled with some laid back stuff equals a well balanced release. Definitely recommended.
Not as noticeable November 9, 2008 Satisfying though not alltogether compelling fourth disc from the intelligent popsters finds Crow and company tightening their signature quirk-rock for even more upbeat accessibility, sometimes at the expense of more intricate melodic work.
Pinback: A Succinct Offering October 19, 2008 While I'm not terribly familar with Pinback's earlier work, hearing two tracks from "Autumn of the Seraphs" on college radio was enough to make me purchase the record. I bought the record on vinyl so I can't speak for the sound quality of the CD, but the succinct arrangements of each song really come through. It's hard to describe the overall sound of the record, but let's just say that the intricate bass and guitar parts sound like they're being performed right in your home. I'd call it a "dry" mix, where every note is present as opposed to being buried amidst studio production. I've never been one to read too much into song titles, so I won't go into that realm. Rather, I tend to focus on the overall feel of a record, and this record has an even feel, with no dud tracks, and is truly an "album" experience instead of muddling through tracks to get to a favorite. If you're not familiar with Pinback I highly recommend this disc. It's hard to imagine anyone not enjoying it, and for audiophiles "Autumn of the Seraphs" is a true test of your home stereo system.
PINBACK is PEERLESS... proven again by Autumn of the Seraphs May 4, 2008 Rob & Zach are in a league of their own. Creating lyrically interesting and intricately layered music... delivering album after album of mind blowing prog "math" pop rock. Can ya tell I like them? They have NEVER disappointed me with any of their releases. While there music is moody, sometimes even melodramatic... it is NOT depressing, it just makes you FEEL. Rob has the most beautiful, incomparable voice and Zach's beatific backing seamlessly blends - these men were meant to work together. Their unique transitions and sick riffs kill. Everything they do is ground breaking and unrivaled. The standout tracks on Autumn of the Seraphs (which has already made my hall of fame) are: the bittersweet "Bouquet", the defiant "Torch", the jubilant "Blue Harvest" and the hard charging "From Nothing to Nowhere". Amazing job guys - Pinback is & has been one of my favorite bands of all time.
What an Incredible Disappointment April 16, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I discovered Pinback a few years ago and was so exited by their music I bought every one of their albums and EPs. When Autumn of the Seraphs came out it was a no-brainer purchase. Then I listened to it. There weren't that many standouts, but I figured I needed to let it grow on me. Several months and numerous listens later I am still waiting. Some great elements are still there, peeking out now and then, but the core groove and beauty of their earlier albums is gone. What happened? Part of me hopes it's a phase, but another part worries that they peaked at Summer in Abaddon. Pinback is one of those bands I am proud to turn friends onto, but not one of the songs on this album would make that playlist.
