5 out of 5 stars Excellent take of Babyface's songs   April 30, 2005

I never thought that the Whispers would do an album of Babyface's many hits. But this album contains many of my favorites that he produced and wrote. Some surprises are Can We Talk, Exhale, My My My, I Love You Babe and others. I like the funky You're Makin' Me High! Don't know why they didn't do an updated version of Rock Steady, the song that LA and Babyface had a hit with them in 1987 and returned them back to top status as a group. But they selected a solid 12 songs that matched with their vocals and harmonies. A very dynamic and smartly done tribute to Babyface as a major music force!

1 out of 5 stars Stick With The Original Versions!!   June 21, 2004

Honestly, this should be zero stars but that's just me. I'm one of the HUGEST Babyface fan you'll ever meet and this here is a CLASSIC disappointment!! There are many artists that cover songs that an artist made famous or not famous and most times the result didn't par with the original. This is the case here!! If you expect to find a definitive version like how Luther Vandross did with 'A House Is Not A Home'(which was originally sung by Dionne Warwick) and made it FAR better than any versions before or after, you will NOT find it on this album. All of the songs are either written or co-written by Babyface with the exception of "All In Good Time". Before you buy and listen to any of the tracks here, make sure to listen to the original artists that Babyface 'specifically tailored' for the other artists or himself: "My, My, My"(Johnny Gill), "Seven Whole Days"/ You're Making Me High"(Toni Braxton), "Whip Appeal"/"For The Cool In You"/"Soon As I Get Home"/"I Love You Babe"(Babyface), "Two Occasions"(The Deele), "Can We Talk"(Tevin Campbell), "Exhale(Shoop Shoop)"(Whitney Houston). After you listen to the original artist that recorded those songs, you'd find that these remakes are watered down(and that's just putting it mildly). Trust me, you'll only regret it in the end if you purchase this album. Buy the original versions, you'll be much satisfied by the production values, the vocals, as well as the arrangements and all since the original tracks by the original artists were produced or co-produced by Babyface. The overall value for this album is NOT very good at all!! If you want to listen to anything that Babyface `specifcally' wrote for the Whispers, I suggest you listen to `Rock Steady', `In The Mood', `Don't Keep Me Waiting', `Some Kinda Lover' or even the duo effort by Walter & Scotty that L.A. and Babyface wrote called `With All My Heart".

5 out of 5 stars ....soothing....and romantic.....   August 31, 2001

This album, i discovered only by accident while browsing thru a record store a few years back. The only song by them that I knew then was "Rock Steady" from the late 80's but when I heard this album, I was really amazed. I knew some of the songs here and my curiosity of how their version will sound turned into admiration. I still love the original versions but I also appreciate the way they interpreted it in this album. I find the songs soothing and also, very romantic. I even gave 2 copies of it as wedding gifts to my friends and they enjoyed it, too. Really great for easy listening.

who Knew from the days when The Whispers did La&BabyFaces Rock steady that they would be recording Babyfaces Song Book? this is a Gem.Babyface has been the Most Important Writer&Producer over the past Decade and so it's only fitting that a Great Group Like The Whispers are choosen to sing his songs.and they turn them out.this is a very solid Disc from strat to finish I Hope there is a Part two.
