Yet Another "DUD" June 15, 2006 3 out of 10 found this review helpful
A fine example of what Smooth Jazz is. Far too many Electronic Musical subsitutions, in place of true Musical instruments. Echo chambers, are another failure. Creates a haunting sound but that is about all. Where is the rhythm? Missing in action. True musical instruments, and maybe single mic recording would be a vast improvement. Oh yes and some improvisation. I hope K.BRENT OF ORANGE COUNTY, CA, takes note. This INDIVIDUAL obviously has never heard real Jazz.
Good, but... May 27, 2006 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Paul Hardcastle has been an icon of smooth jazz for a long time. In both his 'Hardcastle' and 'Jazz Masters' series he's laid down a lot of good music. And while there's nothing bad about this CD, there was nothing that jumped out at me as particularly inventive or creative.
Paul's daughter sings on several numbers and has a pleasent enough voice - but the lyrics seemed 'trite' for lack of a better word. For instance, 'Smooth Jazz is Bumpin' works only if you don't pay too close attention to the lyrics - because if you do, they come across as if written by a 12 year old.
Smooth jazz doesn't have to be elevator music - but Hardcastle 4 comes dangerously close to just that.
Another Got To Have from Paul Hardcastle April 24, 2006 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
First of all, I am a HUGE Helen Rogers fan and I am a bit sad that she does not appear on this CD. That said I must disagree with some of the reviewers which state that Maxine Hardcastle is a distraction with her vocals. Her voice is reminiscent of Ms. Rogers though not as strong, however fine for the vocals on this CD. If you're a Hardcastle fan you will enjoy this CD. I do hope that Paul and Helen get back together though.
Smooth Jazz Continues with Hardcastle March 22, 2006 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Once again Paul Hardcastle produces another smooth jazz CD that is a must have to add to the collection of his works. It has come to the point where if the music is produced by Paul Hardcastle I buy it. Not much to say except just enjoy the CD and tell others about it.
Distracting Vocals March 1, 2006 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
This was my first Paul Hardcastle CD and I was disappointed with it primarily because of the 3 tracks where his daughter sings. I found the music on the CD to be very enjoyable overall but I thought the 3 vocal tracks were a distraction. I am sure that Hardcastle's daughter is a very sweet and kind girl but I did not find her singing to be a attribute.
I still can't understand why some excellent smooth jazz artists, like Hardcastle, seem to think that adding 'unknown' voices necessarily improve the quality of there CD offerings. As a consumer, if I want to hear voice there are any number of recognized quality singers with their own CDs that I have the option to putchase.
