Great record March 18, 2009 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is one seriously great record. Uptown records does a really great job on all of their releases. They focus on live recordings--usually radio air checks from the 1940's and the 1950's.
Allen Eager was a Lester Young inspired tenor sax player. He played with the best bebop players of the late 1940's. He played with Fats Navarro, Bud Powell, and lots of other really great players. I have read a little about him. It seems that music was not his only interest. He as a sportsman and seemed to just enjoy life.
Anyway, if you like live performance recordings of your standard late 1940's bebop, you will like this record. I have purchased a number of discs on the Uptown Jazz label. I have been happy with all of them. The company only makes a limited number of discs, so get it while it lasts.
As far as sound goes, it does have some problems, but the sound is still very good for a live performance record from the 1940's.
Enjoy!!
