Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com
This is not the typical example of an artist from another genre jumping on the crowded standards-and-ballads bandwagon. When I Fall in Love instead represents an instrumental stylist busting out of a box to find a much more suitable platform for his craft. These tracks are the fruits of an obvious labor of love for everyone from the featured musicians to the arrangers to the engineers. The arrangers, particularly Billy Childs and Gil Goldstein, give Botti's trumpet a broad-brushed orchestral backdrop that allows him to emerge from the swirling strings and bouncy horns with bold strokes of creative improvising. Some tracks are obvious nods to Gil Evans and the lush arrangements of 1970s CTI recordings. Even the guest vocalists, Sting and Paula Cole, let his trumpet sing first before their respective cues on "La Belle Dame Sans Regrets" and "What'll I Do." The only blemish here is the obvious attempt at smooth jazz airplay with Sade's "No Ordinary Love." --Mark Ruffin

5 out of 5 stars Great Jazz   April 14, 2009
Thsi is one of the best cd's I have ever purchased, and I have purchsed over 500 cd's. It is relaxing and inspiring to listen to while working. I recommend this to any jass lover.

5 out of 5 stars Bottis' second best...narrowly   April 1, 2009
Behind Botti's masterpiece, ITALIA, this is his second-best CD. Which is saying a lot.
Like ITALIA, not a single average cut on it.
Well worth it. Paula Cole once again is magnificent. The best cut is "How Love Should Be".
Botti's selections are as great as his playing.
The best trumpter of our generation, and in the opinion of many, of all time.
And time to say it. This man is an artist with a capital "A".
Comparing Botti to anyone is like comparing Man o' War to a mule. A blind, three-legged mule.
So-called rap artists take note.
You couldn't care his horn case.

4 out of 5 stars Chris Botti and his trumpet   March 1, 2009
I have always had an admiration for trumpet players, starting with my father who played one during World War I as a bugler. Later, he joined a band and played the trombone. I loved to hear him practice.

One of my very favorite band leaders was Harry James because of the amazing way he could make that trumpet make music. Louis Armstrong is another who can do the same. I now add Chris Botti to that list. He is a true artist. I bought his CD not even knowing who he was; I had never heard of him. But when I saw the cover of his CD holding his horn, I bought it immediately. The fact that he is extremely handsome was just an added bonus.

As I was surfing the different tv channels recently, imagine my surprise to see him on a PBS concert. He was the host and had several of his musical friends on as guests, including Sting and a beautiful young singer named Katherine McFee. He played his trumpet in accompaniment. What a treat! Seeing this handsome young man playing so masterfully has inspired me to buy another of CD's soon.

5 out of 5 stars CHRIS BOTTI   February 25, 2009
