Editorial Reviews:

With Kiss the Sky, Will Smith's former Fresh Prince of Bel-Air costar Tatyana Ali ditches acting to enroll in Little Miss R&B 101, a class already crowded with one-name star pupils like Brandy, Monica, Monifah, Aaliyah, and Nicole. With such competition, it's tough to say whether Ali can pull off an A, but the first single, "Daydreamin'," driven by a sample of Steely Dan's "Black Cow," is a good start. The rest of the album however, is sugar-puff light--full of lukewarm ballads, candy-sweet lyrics, and Boyz II Men-like melodies (wherever Boy II Man Shawn Stockman has stamped his writing credits) that don't quite work with Ali's angelic but powerless voice. Don't write her off yet, though--she shows promise and in a few more years may deliver. --Rebecca Wallwork

5 out of 5 stars Kiss The Sky.....7 Years Later   July 18, 2005

Seven years have passed since the release of Kiss the Sky and I am very impressed still. Comparing this to artists of today like Ashanti, Tatyana really impresses me with her debut attempt. Sure the subject matter may be simple, but it's the delivery that pushes the album to me. I particularly love the songs "Boy You Knock Me Out" (anyone who samples Bobby Caldwell's "What You Won't Do For Love" and has Kelly Price on backup vocals and Will's rap is AMAZING in my book), "Daydreamin'," "Everytime" (I LOOOOOVE the Cutfather & Joe Edit though as well), "Kiss the Sky" (beautiful ballad) and "Through Life Alone" (very smooth delivery....like a soft rain). I didn't get this album when it first dropped, but I recall FALLING IN LOVE with "BYKMO" and holding on to that love seven years later. Today, I am still in love with "BYKMO" and I'm falling in love with and appreciating "Kiss the Sky" all over again....especially in the midst of today's crap artists like Jessica Simpson, Gwen Stefani, Beyonce's Chillun, and Ashanti who believe ho'ing it out is the way to selling a song to an audience. This is an album for all of those who like it simple and not overdone. A simple and directly innocent love ballad is just enough for romance, not some Cater 2 U crap. Tatyana nails it for me. Kudos to you Tati.

5 out of 5 stars Tatyana Ali's Debut Album   May 12, 2005

I remember this album when I was in the 6th grade. I played this album out. This album is a languid journey to the heart and soul of modern R&B,a mellow fusion of up-to-the-minute beats and grooves accompained by heartfelt ballads. Each song tells emotional tales of young love, and speaks of the steep highs and deep lows of the journey as felt through that intense perspective, where a broken heart can quite feel like the end of the world. This album should have been promoted more. Remember, this was 1998.

5 out of 5 stars Nice For Her   April 9, 2005

For her debut album this is nice..I got this CD when it first came out despite the fact that I hated the single that was initially released..Boy You Knock Me Out...that song irked me..It came out right after Lord's over played single came out that it sampled..I still think this cd was hot though..All together..I love the ballads...I would buy it again if that made sense..I hope she is given a chance to come out with another cd, or that she even wants that.
