Tremendous Talent March 5, 2009 I heard one of her recordings on a smooth jazz station, and was amazed by her clarity her pharaseology and her style and compostion as a musician and song writer. I was pleased with listening to the complete album, so I could enjoy the full content of her talent. I am a fan of classic jazz, and this reminded me of some of the nostalgic work of Billie Holiday. I anticipate more of the same when my ears encounter her melodies in her other recordings.
Great! February 21, 2009 This CD was awesome...just heard this artist on pandora by chance, and had to quickly look up the CD. After buying it, it sounded like an awesome voice from 40 years ago, but with present influences. I loved it, and look forward to buying her other CDs.
Mdeline Peyroux - Careless Love November 21, 2008 Incredible! A little Billie Holiday, a bit of Edith Piaf, and a whole lot of enjoyment. A pleasure to listen to.
Serendipitous find! October 15, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I first heard Madeleine Peyroux's seductive, swingy voice in a grocery store of all places, singing Leonard Cohen's "Dance Me to the End of Love." I ran to the computer as soon as I got home to find out who would have the great good taste and chops to perform that song without making me long for the original. Great voice, fine album, wonderful selection of songs.
A Superb Singer on her Best CD September 15, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I first heard Peyroux' "Don't Wait Too Long" on NPR and immediately bought the Careless Love CD. What a treasure! At first she did remind me of Holiday, but the more I listened, the more I heard her own sound and style. This is one I can play over and over and never tire of (especially Between the Bars - incredible!). I have probably given this CD to a dozen friends, who in turn have become big fans. While I have also enjoyed her other CDs, this one remains my favorite and, I think, her best.
