5 out of 5 stars Benny Golson: Unsung Hero/Living Legend   November 12, 2008

Benny Golson, accomplished master of the tenor sax, is probably one of the most underrated musicians around today. He's paid his dues since the days with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers and even though his style has gradually evolved over the years, he still cooks as always and is still full of suprises in every muscial setting. I am always personally impressed with his masterful treatment of ballads and even though most of his recorded exposure has been with quintet and sextet formats (w/the Jazztet, Art Farmer & Curtis Fuller), I love the quartet format the most, especially with pianist Mulgrew Miller and Rufus Reid. My opinion here is all personal, so do yourself a favor, and enjoy this recording yourself. Nothing I can say can give the reader what Mr. Golson & company can. Thanks anyway for your time, but buy this cd!
