Amazon.com's Best of 1999
Rumors of TLC's impending breakup were especially worrying in light of this excellent disc, which was even more consistent in its way than 1994's CrazySexyCool. Great singing and the usual huge hooks--not to mention the smarts of songs such as "Unpretty" and "I'm Good at Being Bad"--made Fanmail one of R&B's most striking releases of the year. --Rickey Wright

Amazon.com
The jumpy, Timbaland-esque beats that kickstart the title track of Fanmail, TLC's long-awaited follow-up to 1994's zillion-selling CrazySexyCool, are a lot more impressively modern than the "computerized" voices that introduce several cuts. Most of the album's production is similarly up to date, displaying the trio's smoldering style to good effect. A few of these songs ("Silly Ho," "No Scrubs," "Unpretty") verge on the anthemic, while Babyface-helmed ballads such as "I Miss You So Much" and "Dear Lie" feel like they're running on automatic pilot. For the most part, though, Fanmail earns its status as a multiplatinum sure thing. --Rickey Wright

4 out of 5 stars We Dedicated Our Entire album Cover To Fan mail   March 1, 2009
5 years later TLC released their 3rd studio album Fan Mail, a album of mixture of rap, soul and R&B. Before the relase, T Boz stared in films such as Belly with DMX and Nas and had a minor hit solo called I Touched Myself and Chilli stared in HavPlenty

Fanmail- funny at the beginning and turns into a Catchy song. Great Opening.

Silly Ho- Very humorous with T Boz on leads. Especially the line, I never been a silly bitch.

No Scrubs- coolest song but Left Eye's Rap is way better than the album mix.

I'm Good At Being Bad- Starts out as a love song until with a rap leads. Left eye's contribution is very aggressive.

If They Knew- least favorite

Miss You- Soulful track with the girls harmonizing.

Unpretty- Very empowering

It's My Life and Shout- great songs
Overall the album Rocks.RIP Left Eye

3 out of 5 stars Good album, but felt unplanned   October 15, 2007

You know how an album has a flow to it? This album has no flow. It seems as if the tracks were layed down without a plan.
I was upset because this album felt commercialized and fake. I missed the rawness of original TLC work.
I'm torn, it isn't an artists fault when they want to expand their horizons and push their talent to the limit. Just seems like something was missing on this album. I've owned it for a long time now, I can't believe I'm just getting around to review it now :)
Otherwise, it is a MUST HAVE for any TLC fan, for sure!

4 out of 5 stars its dedicated to the fans   March 21, 2007

this was once my favorite tlc album(now its 3d). the girls were so creative on this one and it was dedicated to the fans.though i wish left eye was used more on this album, not that it upsets me,but we never got a chance to really know her(well all we know was she was crazy),but like t-boz said,it's a figure of speech.most of the tracks are boring but those that make up this album would be:
SILLY HO
NO SCRUBS
IM GOOD AT BEING BAD
I MISS YOU SO MUCH
MY LIFE-WHICH IS MY FAVORITE ON THIS ENTIRE ALBUM
DEAR LIE
LOVESICK

4 out of 5 stars A Great Comeback From Bankruptcy   February 24, 2007

TLC definitely came back strong after a long 5 year hiatus, dealing with public feuding, and health problems with a fantastic album. This album is just as good as CrazySexyCool, but didn't quite top it. They had good tracks like "If They Knew", "Lovesick", "Good At Being Bad", both of Chilli's solo tracks, and a song called "NO Scrubs". I went to see their Fanmail concert and the performance was fabolous, too bad there will be no more. R.I.P. Lisa "Lefteye" Lopes.

5 out of 5 stars fanmail is blazing!   February 1, 2007

big r&b music lover. i've been following tlc almost from their initial entry into the music biz. this is a GREAT album. it is diverse. these girls were so big and cool when i was in high school. and they still are. if you weren't listening to tlc you weren't listening to great music! lol. it is so sad that Lisa (Left eye) died. now there won't be anymore fantastic music from this talented group. B/c frankly, no one can replace her. i really don't think i will buy a tlc album if they were to come out with a new member. i can't stand imitations or replacements. love t-boz's voice on this too. the futuristic sound of most of the whole album complements her raspy voice very well. my best songs:

1. silly ho- so true. catchy, love the beat, can't even explain it. to give you an idea it almost sounds like a neptunes song

2. no scrubs- nothing much needs to be said. just a great song. great beat. it was the hit song of the year! who doesn't know about it must've been living under a rock!

3. fanmail- similar to silly ho, it has a very futuristic, neptunes like beat. very catchy

4. unpretty-the other hit of the year. beautfiful lyrics. was very happy someone finally touched on that subject and summed it up so thoroughly & concisely

5. good at being bad- multi-layer song, funny lyrics

also, dear lie, has beautiful, truthful lyrics. which just illustrates that this is not one of those "all style and no substance" albums. no way. they took their time and wrote some fantastic lyrics to accompany their hot music..love the cover pic too!
