Amazon.com Mariah Carey's #1's is as much a time capsule of '90s pop and R&B as a record of one woman's chart toppers: the disc chronicles a shift from the sweet, nearly '50s-style "Vision of Love" to more recent hip-hop-lite grooves featuring heavy input from Puffy Combs ("Honey"), Jermaine Dupri ("Sweetheart"), and O.D.B. ("Fantasy"). Some hit, some miss, but all feature the fluttery swoops that Carey substitutes for expression of feeling. Depth is beside the point, but few of these tracks are even fun. Still, after eight years, there seems to be no stopping her, and this album will hardly break her streak of successes. --Rickey Wright

Title misleading January 25, 2009 #1's 73 minutes and 13 seconds long and was released on November 16, 1998. #1's reached #4 on the Billboard 200 Album charts and went 5 Platinum. This is Mariah Carey's first compilation album. Mainly it covers all of her first thirteen number-one singles. Plus there are four new singles on the cassette as well and neither of them reached number one. That is why the title is misleading. Mariah's magic does not always work. The closest a song got was to number four. Below are the extra songs on this cassette.
Billboard Hot 100 Sweetheart #125 When You Believe #15 I Still Believe #4 Theme from Mahogany (Do You Know Where You're Going To)
Still I did not care for it because she is trying to rap some of these songs which is not her style. Also some had a hip-hop style as well.
Christmas present January 6, 2009 this also was a Christmas gift for my daughter and she was very surprised and happy
WHAT!!!!! December 20, 2008 am i looking at the price right.almost 3 hundred dollars for this cd.yeah right.i won't pay that much for one cd.
WHY IS IT BACKWARDS!?! October 20, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I do like that Mariah supposedly "hand picked" this compilation, but what drives me up the wall is the fact the stupid thing is backwards. All the newer songs (bar I Still Believe) are at the beginning and all her later hits are at the end, which makes it very confusing when manually looking for a certain track on the CD player. The track listing isn't on the back, either. It's on the insert. The back just has a randomized list of songs on a bullet chart. If you want to get technical (and I don't really give a crap about the number status of her singles), I believe a hand full of the songs never exactly made it to one on the chart.
