Amazon.com Like any other old-school R&B band trying to establish some street cred these days, Tony Toni Tone devotes one track on House of Music to a collaboration with a guest rapper. The track is the first single, "Let's Get Down," and the rap star is DJ Quik, but the results are not what you'd think. For one thing, the Oakland trio applies its trademark of relaxed self-assurance to the mix. While everyone else in hip-hop and R&B is flinging electronic beats, synth bleeps, and vocal beefs at the listener, Tony Toni Tone never hurries. Lead singer Raphael Saadiq, {cq} his brother Dwayne Wiggins and their cousin Timothy Christian Riley exude the confidence that they're in control, so they can take the time to let the beat sway and slide rather than slam all the time. --Geoffrey Himes

New Jack Swing coming at ya May 23, 2009 Raphael Saadiq has added new dimension to soul music. His originality and creativity defies the norm and banality of most R&B today. Clearly he is an independent song writer and performer. Who stands heads above those corporate lackeys who let the boardroom room defined what "Urban Music" is. Some times it's not all about the hook! It's about the MUSIC! Come on let's get down, let's get down, down, down. This man clearly enjoys his craft. He continues to sell out concert hall after concert hall without having a top ten hit. Why? because he doesn't fit the norm expected of black artists in the corporate room! This man is so talented and is highly respected throughout the music industry. But still it broke my heart when the band broke up. I remember when soul music was so much more complex. Southern soul, Chi town, The Philly sound, Latin soul(NYC), Do wop (NYC) Calli, ballads and torch songs, smooth R&B, Funk, Blue lights in the basement. Now we have "Urban music" what a load of crock! Thank you Raphael, Anthony Hamilton, Jill Scott, and others for keeping your heads above the more common dreck and keeping the soul in the music.
slept on fine r&b May 15, 2008 this is surely one of the groups most intimate and personal lps. They have matured a lot since the "lil walter"days.with strong emphasis on the track"still a man".
Their Final And (Perhaps) Their Best Album! January 17, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This was one of those rare birds that I could play it from beginning to end and not skip! It had good dance music (Let's Get Down, Annie Mae) but its strength is the ballads like "I've Been Thinking Of You", "Last Summer","Party Don't Cry" and "Still A Man."
Put it this way, my own mom who HATES nearly everything that is put out today music-wise, even liked this album! She listened to my copy back when it first came out and got one of her own that she still plays here and there!
Tony, Toni, Tone was one of the greatest groups ever! Not just R & B but groups PERIOD! I would put them in nearly the same category as The Isley Brothers, The Eagles, Prince and his various groups, Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye and KISS. Though they are from different walks of music, they influenced many groups and artists of their respective eras and even now their impact is still felt. I wish they were still together but let's be glad we still have their music even if the group is no more.
Back to the review, this one is essential R & B and worth the money!
The good times September 26, 2007 These guys displayed so much versitility and talent! They went from Al Green to rap, dropped in some old school slow jams. This CD was off the hook! It is timeless. I played it for my kids and they thought it was new, then they thought it was old. But like me, they thought it was all good.
This is the best album in the world... May 23, 2007 When I LOVE a group- I am a fan for life! TTT knows that they can make some music... and this CD is no different. I still play it as if it came out yesterday. I don't find their songs dated at all. They could all spin at a club in 2007 and elicit the same response. I have liked over 80% of every last one of their CD's. Can't say that about a lot of CD's and artists out there, can you?
