4 out of 5 stars Saved the best for last   June 14, 2009
I agree with Andre Grindle in that this is the best of the albums put out by Twennynine with Lenny White. I must say I do disagree with him saying "'All Over Again' is a dull, weak ballad,"All I Want" is better at that, mainly because by the middle it transforms into the funkiest on this album." I prefer All Over Again over All I Want. I also believe they did a descent job with the lyrics all considering. I guess it's a matter of taste but what's the fuss over a couple of songs? Like many albums from that era you can listen to Just Like Dreamin' from start to finish and enjoy the whole album. A side note is the band was put together by Lenny White who like a number of jazz artist at the time did, made the crossover for popular play and pay. You can catch the jazz fusion flavor in all three of the albums which goes back to the lyrics... jazz artist primarily only use background vocals so the attempt at writing vocal lyrics as the primary focus can be a bit tenuous for them. With that in mind I say they did a descent job that got better in the end. If you're into the jazz fusion funk sound like Stanley Clarke, George Duke, Roy Ayres and such of that era put out, this is a must have album.

What can I say? The CD provides good quality music. I have all of their work and this is by far the best CD in my opinion. There is nothing spectacular about the music but it is good! I was hoping for more songs like peanut butter.

5 out of 5 stars Sadly The End Of An Era For Lenny White   October 9, 2007

Despite the success of 1979'sBest of Friends and it's single "Peanut Butter" as well as the following year's Twennynine with Lenny White and it's "My Melody"
this album 'Just Like Dreamin' ended up being Twennynine's final album,as well as being they're third.Recorded in 1981 'Just Like Dreamin' is more updated and showcases a heavier electronic backdrop more typical of the early 80's,as well as strong writing.Lyrics were never Twennynine's strong point and this album is generally know exception, but nevertheless the addition of two new female singers and the more modern updated electro sounds give this music some extra added punch. The first sides set of songs "Rhythm","Twennynine" (the bands first ecknowledgement of the then burgeoning rap scene in New York),"Movin' On" and "Don't Look Back" are all presented in a nonstop segueing groove married to a great upbeat rhythm and a strong funky R&B groove and NEVER let's up-this is one of they're best sets of songs. The final five songs are a totally different animal. The title cut is pleasantly smooth while the funky "Need You" brings to mind Ray Parker Jr's recent work with Raydio on the 'A Woman Needs Love' album of the same vintage.'All Over Again' is a dull, weak ballad,"All I Want" is better at that, mainly because by the middle it transforms into the funkiest on this album-this band were never big on slow tunes when they made them."Find A Love" is a great song-another great R&B-ish funk workout. So this serves as an excellent career ender for this very short lived band. What happened to them I don't know but Lenny White has moved on to greener pastures. But if Twennynine did get back together in the future on somebody's early 80's funk version of 'Bands Reunited' I would be glad to see it,right along with Loose Ends,The SOS Band,Dayton and other likeminded 80's funk outfits. I should also note Wounded Bird are absolute jewels to get this album out on CD.Aside from the brief presense of a Japanese import this CD seemed to have vanished from sight.
