Works great with Vista x64, Etrex Legend June 26, 2009 This item works fine, it works with my Vista x64 machine and Garmin Etrex Legend. Works with EasyGPS and National Geographic Topo. The only bad thing with the product is documentation. I suggest that you ignore the packaged documentation and go directly to the website to download the user guide and drivers. The instructions in the online user guide is different for the Vista installation. Besides incorrect documentation item works great.
Doesn't work for Garmin Rhino 120s or 130s June 17, 2009 I bought this to communicate with my Garmin Rhinos (models 120 and 130). Despite the fact that no modern computer comes with a serial DB9 connector anymore, Garmin is still shipping Rhinos that come only with a DB9 connector. (Shame on Garmin!)
Anyway, I have both a Macbook laptop OS X 10.5 and also an HP running Windows Vista 32 bit Ultimate. I loaded and installed the drivers correctly. (For Mac you have to download them from the TRENDnet web site as the drivers are not included on the CD according to their manual - what's up with that?)
Vista at least could see the USB to serial device plugged in, but the Garmin Webupdater software could not see the Rhino devices on the other end of the cables - on either Mac OS or Vista. I called TRENDnet technical support and spoke to them for about 20 minutes. They were very helpful, but alas were unable to get it working and agreed my best course was to return the USB to serial converter to Amazon.
Other reviewers are quite fond of this converter, so it obviously works for other devices. My comments and negative review, clearly, should therefore be restricted specifically to the Garmin Rhino GPS radios. But for them, with this converter, you're out of luck.
Saved me from buying a new modem June 10, 2009 When I had my motherboard replaced, my computer no longer had a 9 pin serial port. This cable saved me from having to spend $100 on a new external fax modem! Install was a snap and it simply worked. I wish everything computer related was this easy and inexpensive.
Linux kernel support for TU-S9 May 30, 2009 Plugged this into my Linux box, presto, generated a ttyUSB0 device, and worked perfectly, first time, everytime. It's exceptionally nice to have a no-frills device that just works, without a hassle.
Fully functional and easy to install. May 19, 2009 After you installed the included software (or downloaded from the website) it is PnP (plug and play, ready to go). I use it to connect my laptop with my computerized telescope. Nice construction (it does not look or feel cheaply manufactured like many others). And the price is very good.
