Product Description Expand the range of your wireless network The Linksys Wireless-G Range Expander is the easy way to increase the effective coverage of your wireless network. Unlike adding a traditional access point to your network to expand wireless coverage, the Wireless-G Range Expander does not need to be connected to the network by a data cable. Just put it within range of your main access point or wireless router, and it bounces the signals out to remote wireless devices. This relay station or repeater approach saves wiring costs and helps to build wireless infrastructure by driving signals into even those distant, reflective corners and hard-to-reach areas where wireless coverage is spotty and cabling is impractical. The Range Expander is perfect to help cover large areas in multi-story homes, warehouse environments, public spaces, wireless Hot Spots, and outdoor venues -- anywhere you need extra coverage for your wireless network.

Hard to connect, poor documentation, version compatibility poor July 2, 2009 Very bad experience. The automatic connection process didn't work. The documentation wasn't helpful. After attempting several times I called Linksys. They asked about the version level of my router and then informed me I had to pay for help. Their reason was my router was too old and not on warranty any longer. The product never worked. I instead purchased a new Belkin router and have been very happy. My reason to purchase was a poor connection from the far room of the house. The Belkin router overcame this without the need for a signal expander. I think the primary issue was version compatibility between the Linksys router and the Linksys expander. You need to verify your version compatibility before purchasing. Also, if you are not on the latest level of wifi technology you should upgrade your router first. The price of the new router was very close to the price of the expander although the new router was more. In hindsight it would have been cheaper to go with the new router up front. How much is your time worth?
Be aware of potential issues July 1, 2009 I have a v3 version, and I upgraded the firmware. I have a WRT54G access point. The expander loses connection frequently in my home (red light comes on). Seems if it's too far from the access point it has problems connecting to it and if you're laptop is in range of the expander and the access point then the laptop keeps switching from one to another and the expander sometimes drops the connection and needs to be reset to restore. It generally works but the reliability of the connection depends on where you are located and where the expander is located -- sometimes frustrating and I found myself simply unplugging it sometimes when I needed a reliable connection. I have also found the expander to be more susceptible to interference from other wireless devices than the WRT54G.
not another July 1, 2009 I said I would never get another linksys product but I had a linksys router and if I was going to try a extender or booster I had better stick to the same brand. I followed all the advice in the amazons customer reviews, being next to the router, holding the button for 5-15-20 sec.,pluging in the cable and reseting, nothing worked so finally I took the thing upstairs and to the other end of the house and pluged it in pushed the button and it worked fine. If it had not I wasn't going to call linksys that's a wast of time.
Linksys June 29, 2009 Typical good Linksys quality. Easy to incorporate in my wireless network and solved a coverage issue in one bedroom. I would buy again. Amazon price and delivery as always was excellent.
Good and works June 23, 2009 Once set up it works as expected although in my particular case the extender does not give me full signal strength unless it is located within 10 feet of the PC.
If the set up was easier or better documented it would definitely get 5 stars. I am sure Linksys knows about the issues but have not done anything. BTW, the CD it comes with is totally useless don't even waste your time with it. Follow instructions from other people and it will go smoothly.
