UP, UP AND AWAY !!! June 12, 2009 The Very Best Of The 5th Dimension has a great deal of their finest music and it makes an excellent CD for fans and newcomers alike! The 5th Dimension always performed at their very best and their fans loved every minute of their incredible music. The quality of the sound on this CD is excellent and I like that artwork very much.
The album starts with one of their best hits ever, "Up, Up and Away." Up, Up and Away" features wonderful harmonizing and they never skip a beat! The parts where the men and the women harmonize separately are very well done in particular. I love it! We then are treated to a brilliant medley of "Aquarius" and "Let The Sunshine In;" The 5th Dimension handles this as effortlessly as if it were mere breathing but of course we know it wasn't like that--their talents carried them through. The medley also makes good use of the guitars, drums and percussion--what a number! "Stoned Soul Picnic" is another gem; they do this one up right and I'm very impressed.
"Wedding Bell Blues" is a stellar tune; I didn't know the name of this tune until I got this CD but I certainly knew this tune! "Wedding Bell Blues" is very lush and they deliver this faultlessly. Excellent! "(Last Night) I Didn't Get to Sleep at All" is another prime example of The 5th Dimension at their best; they sing and play this wonderfully and the music works wonders for this number. "(Last Night) I Didn't Get to Sleep at All" is a major highlight of this album.
"One Less Bell to Answer" gets the royal treatment from this fine troupe; again they perform this very well. "One Less Bell to Answer" uses the chorus for a great effect and it's very memorable. "Another Day, Another Heartache" has that late 1960s/early 1970s flavor to it; and "Living Together, Growing Together" is very sweet. "If I Could Reach You" sports an elegant arrangement for the piano; and "Go Where You Wanna Go" by The Mamas & The Papas features The 5th Dimension fiddling a bit with the lyrics to put their own stamp onto this ballad--and it all holds its own very well.
"Sweet Blindness" is easily a major highlight of this CD; they never let go of a superfluous note and I'm amazed! "Puppet Man" is quite a song about a relationship; and "On the Beach (In the Summertime)" is strong in its own way. "Blowing Away" again features their outstanding ability to harmonize better than any other group I've heard--ever! Listen also for "Ashes to Ashes;" this song packs a punch and the CD ends nicely with The 5th Dimension performing "Girl's Song."
The 5th Dimension really rank high in my book for all that they gave to us; and as I wrote above this makes a great CD for their fans. Admittedly, the more diehard fan who has most or all of these tunes will need to look further for more comprehensive CD sets; but this is just the ticket for the causal fan and people who want to add to their collection.
Very Best of the 5th Dimension - Excellent CD! April 27, 2009 This superb CD captures the all the great hits by this fabulous singing group. Listening to their wonderful harmonies on great songs written by Laura Nyro (Stoned Soul Picnic, Sweet Blindness, Wedding Bell Blues) and Jimmy Webb (Up, Up and Away, Paper Cup, Carpet Man) brings you back to the great music era of the late 60's and early 70's when the music made you feel good.

It is the best! October 9, 2008 I've only heard a few songs by 5th dimension before, but I loved those; they were on this album, and I like the rest, too. If you have heard their music and like it, you won't be disappointed with this CD.
Best of the Fifth Dimension June 14, 2008 The songs I really like and was interested were in the first half of the CD. The others were only so, so. I did get the songs I wanted and will enjoythem.
