Great Songs! I played it until it fell apart! May 29, 2009 I would love yo order this;it was a great album. BUT for $33!!!!? i don't think so. If anyone has the disc for sale in good condition -reasonable priced look me up!
Not vintage Donna Summer, but Make that three and a half stars! March 29, 2009 "Cats Without Claws" is definitely NOT vintage Donna Summer. But while it was probably the second best of Donna's four 1980's CDs (The best being 1983's "She Works Hard for the Money"), it's nowhere near as brilliant as her work during her 1970's heyday. True, the album has several gimmicky songs that are downright silly ("Eyes," "Cats Without Claws"), but other tracks--such as her terrific remake of the Drifters' "There Goes My Baby," "Supernatural Love" and the mesmerizing soft-rock of "Oh Billy Please"--chug along pleasantly enough, bouyed by the synthesizer-drenched sound then in vogue. But the most stunning cut of all is actually a plainative, piano-based, spiritual ballad, "Forgive Me." As most fans know, Summer went public about her born-again christianity (and sparked a major controversy over anti-gay remarks, which she has repeatedly denied making), but "Forgive Me" is probably her most overt declaration of the role of religion in her life. Even so, "Forgive Me" has a melody so stunning (and is so beautifully sung) that it could even keep the staunchest atheist hanging onto every word!!! "Forgive Me" is definitely the song that will dispel any doubts about Summer's ballad-singing prowess and, as such, is the one song that DEFINITELY makes "Cats Without Claws" worth having.

Yes, some of the reviewers don't like every song. I can hear why.
She took the most chances after the Casablanca Years with Geffen Records. This was in the vein of The Wanderer (1980), also on Geffen.
The following tracks make this a must have:
3) THERE GOES MY BABY (4:24) (122 BPM)
4) SUZANNA (4:31) (129 BPM)
5) CATS W/O CLAWS (4:23) (Oh, was Giorgio in the studio too???)
6) OH BILLY PLEASE (4:56) (You know you have friends that would make this a complete production) (Or they have!)
7) E Y E S (4:46) (124 BPM) I LOVE THIS !!!!!
10) FORGIVE ME (BALLAD) (4:32) Super Sweet Summer :o)
You just can't write a hit song everyday. But Summer & Co. gave it their all folks. PS: There is more than one listing for this disc, click the other CD available for a price much less than the almost $50 one found here.

I am a great Donna fan, but this is not one of Summer's more memorable works. The album is well produced by Michael Omartian but lacks the timeless songs and gripping melodies that are found aplenty on her better albums.
There Goes My Baby is a pleasant ballad where her voice gets a chance to soar, but most of the tracks sound very similar. The style is a kind of 80's Pop/R&B without the dance beat. The torch song Forgive Me has lovely piano and the title track is vaguely sensual, while the opening number Supernatural Love is embellished with impressive synth infusions.
But overall, the album is rather tepid and lacks spark. It is with a measure of reluctance that I award it a third star. Perhaps it deserves only two and a half. I recommend the albums Bad Girls and Once Upon a Time to those wishing to hear Donna Summer at her peak.
