Editorial Reviews:

Album Description
Los Angeles, CA: The Tyde are a band that could exist nowhere but California, somehow managing to capture the South Orange County longboarding culture of their suburban Golden State musical forebears ? The Wilson brothers and Jan & Dean - with the U.K. Creation Records sound of the early-?90s. The Tyde answer the questions: What if Galaxie 500 (or Prefab Sprout, for that matter) had been beach bums? What if the shoegazers had all been staring at their Vans? The Tyde?s third album, Three?s Co., was recorded at VisionQuest Studios in Los Angeles and finds Darren Rademaker once again taking his unique blend of surf-influenced pop-rock by way of late ?70s/early ?80s Brit rockers Felt, rolling it up and taking a deep drag, then passing around the perfect musical prescription for the re-emergence of California cool. The US release of Three?s Co., out 8/29, will also feature two bonus tracks: a James Figurine (Dntel/Postal Service remix of "Glassbottom Lights" as well as the gorgeously melancholic "Don?t Need a Leash" (remixed by Nobody for Nobody?s Home Productions).

They did it Once in 2001 and Twice in 2003. Now Los Angeles celestial cowpokes the Tyde make Three's Co. a charming bookend to their first two albums with another wave of summer-longing, sunlit choruses and gleaming guitar pop. Led by the husband/wife squad of Darren (vocals/guitars) and Ann Do (keyboards) Rademaker (formerly of ambiguous '90s indie band Further), the group packs its three-minute jingles with vestiges of sand and surf and serendipitous nuances of love. Darren cross-pollinates his compositions with windswept lap steel guitar and flamboyant synthesizers, yet the power chords that wrap around songs like "Do It Again Again," "Glassbottom Lights" and "County Line"--complementing his pop-perfect voice--are the band's true sound. Though more reminiscent of late-summer resonance, Three's Co. is a foil for any peek at the sun and sets up the perfect title for the next album this band makes: The Tyde IV. --Scott Holter

The Tyde are a band that has been kicking around in LA for a while. They have a huge UK following. I have seen them play with Brian Jonestown Massacre. In fact, they are doing a big tour with BJM this fall. Now we have the third album. It sounds a little like Beachwood Sparks and Frausdots, some previous side projects for this group. On this album we have some brothers in crime, like Conor Deasy from The Thrills, and Mickey Madden of Maroon 5. One of the best songs is "Brock Landers." Listening to this album again, there is few weak moments. It may be there most accessible yet. Halfway through it becomes more like Spiritualized. Another favorite of mine is "County Line" which is almost like a Canned Heat song. The James Figurine remix is pretty interesting. This is a pretty cool record. I lived in Southern California half of my life. I never surfed and barely know how to swim. With this album I can imagine what it is like being out there on a wave in the sun.
