Serene, gentle, gorgeous.... May 23, 2009 I have to admit that I was interested initially in this CD because Melody Gardot is gorgeous. She has that "smart chick" look that I'm a sucker for, that Tina Fey/Janeane Garofalo look. But then, when I listened to the CD, I realised that she's an amazing musician, with a gorgeous voice, and an artist with amazing songwriting ability. Another reviewer has said this album sounds incredibly intimate, like Melody is in your own living room, and they're right. Music like this can be done in a very superficial way, almost like "elevator musak", but Melody is so good and sincere that there's no cliches or superficiality here. The arrangements are top notch, employing beautiful, understated guitars, violins, lap steel (one of my favorite instruments), and, of course, Melody's voice. Even the closing instrumental, Twilight, is moving and beautiful. I hope Melody stays around for a long time, as she's wonderful and beautifully serene.
Happy to have found it May 12, 2009 I heard a very catchy yet slightly haunting song in the background of a made-for-lifetime movie and knew I had to track down what song that was. This song and one by Circe Link were the highlights of the movie. The song was "Sweet Memory" by Melody Gardot - and I'm so glad I put in the effort to find it!! Now that I've listened to all the songs on this album, I know that Melody Gardot will be on my Watch List for a long time. I already have this as one of my favorite albums, and her knew one is quickly rising in the number of times I've played it.
Not quite mellow, but not upbeat, these songs easily fit whatever mood I'm in. What a treat!
when Melody sings I'm in paradise... May 8, 2009 Worrisome Heart by Melody Gardot showcases Melody's extraordinary ability to sing write, and play piano with a great deal of sensitivity and she doesn't let us down a single time on this album. Melody has an abundance of talent and the thrilling part is that she's still really just getting started. The quality of the sound on this album is excellent; and I love that artwork.
The album opens with the title track, a jazzy, bluesy number that has Melody singing with all her heart and soul. Melody's voice is absolutely beautiful to hear; she sounds as clear as a bell and her vocal range is very good. The musical arrangement makes good use of the piano, horn, guitar and percussion. I love it! When Melody sings that she "(needs) a hand with (her) worrisome heart," I want to reach out to her as if I could touch her right there and sooth her pain--she makes this all THAT good. What a chanteuse! In addition, "All That I Need Is Love" has Melody handling complex tempo and key changes like the pro she is--and that guitar work is very easy on the ear. "All That I Need Is Love" explores the feelings of a woman who wants a man to truly love her instead of having a superficial relationship; this ballad strikes me with its beauty--wow!
"Gone" makes good use of the string instruments and Melody sings this somewhat melancholy song to perfection--and beyond. Melody never skips a beat and she doesn't let go of a superfluous note, either! I'm very impressed; this gal deserves a spotlight, to say the least. "Sweet Memory" is another fine number; Melody's singing is front and center but the music that plays complements her vocals faultlessly. "Sweet Memory" is another very sophisticated number; Melody sings of a woman who remembers a past love even though she knows that she'll want another love soon.
"Some Lessons" has Melody pouring her heart and soul into this rather bluesy ballad; and it creates quite an emotional effect. "Quiet Fire" has a terrific musical arrangement and when Melody Gardot performs on "Quiet Fire" you can really see her star beginning to shine very brightly! Melody is not going away anytime soon.
"One Day" again features the wonderful talents of Melody Gardot; she delivers this like a champ and "One Day" is easily another major highlight of this album. Will the person Melody sings of become her partner? Maybe so--we can certainly hope! "Love Me Like A River Does" again has a fine piano arrangement while Melody sings this number with great feeling. "Goodnite" is a tender ballad that charms me with its natural beauty. Melody Gardot sounds terrific on "Goodnite" and I could never tire of hearing her sing this tune. The CD also ends well with Melody performing "Twilight." "Twilight' has a somewhat exotic musical arrangement that is rather pretty and it leaves me wanting more.
Melody Gardot is clearly going places fast. This album, along with her latest CD, points to truly legendary stardom. I highly recommend this album for fans of Melody Gardot; and people who enjoy jazzy numbers with some blues mixed in will not be disappointed.

Smooth and beautiful voice April 15, 2009 The album is soothing and smooth. I can listen to it on repeat for hours. I recently saw Melody live in London and she was amazing. Such a beautiful and clear voice that conveys so much emotion.
